Everything you need to know about Merit.
Merit is the only team in the country that specializes exclusively in hotel room blocks for wedding and event planners. We're not a travel agency, a software tool, or a generalist platform — we're a dedicated room block team with over 20 years of events experience behind us. Hundreds of blocks managed. One specialty. Nobody does this more than we do.
Most planners who come to us fall into one of three camps: they've been doing room blocks completely alone, they've considered joining a travel agency thinking it would help, or they've worked with another "room block specialist" before and it didn't go the way they hoped — whether that was limited hotel options, a team that wasn't exactly easy to work with, or a system that felt like it was built for the company's benefit more than theirs. Merit exists for one reason: room blocks. That's our entire focus. We work with 99% of hotels worldwide — from boutique properties to major brands — because your clients deserve options, not limitations. And we're in your corner, not just managing transactions. You get a team that has seen every scenario, knows every hotel tactic, and genuinely has your best interests at heart. Nobody in the country does this more than we do — and we think how you treat people matters just as much as what you know.
Merit is built exclusively for wedding and event planners who book hotel room blocks for their clients. If you're already negotiating blocks, managing guest lists, and chasing cutoff dates — you're exactly who we built this for. You're doing the work. You should be getting paid for it.
No — and that distinction matters. Traditional travel agencies are generalists. They handle flights, cruises, honeymoons, corporate travel — room blocks are an afterthought, if they're on the radar at all. Merit does one thing: hotel room blocks for wedding and event planners. That focus is the whole point. You're not getting a generalist who happens to know a little about blocks — you're getting a team that lives and breathes this every single day.
No! You don't need IATA credentials, travel licenses, or special certifications. If you're already booking room blocks, you should be earning from them — Merit makes that possible.
It depends on the size of your blocks and the hotel's commission rate, but the range is wider than most planners expect. A smaller local wedding block might earn you a few hundred dollars. A larger destination wedding or resort buyout can bring in $5,000, $10,000, or more on a single block. The more blocks you're managing, the more it adds up — and with Merit tracking every dollar, nothing gets left behind.
Honestly? You don't have to think about it. Tracking your commission, following up with hotels, and making sure everything gets processed correctly — that's on us, not you. You'll always have full visibility into where your commission stands right in your member portal, but you'll never have to chase anyone down for it. That's our job.
No — your clients get the same rates they'd get booking directly, if not better. Hotels pay commission as a standard cost of doing business, not as an added charge to your clients. It costs them nothing extra. You just finally get paid for the business you're bringing to the hotel.
Hotels rely on travel agents and planners to bring them business, and they reward planners for their role in securing bookings. Merit ensures you get your fair share by tracking and facilitating these earnings — the same commissions that have always existed, just finally reaching the people who earned them.
Merit offers two service levels: Self-Fulfillment — You lead the process. You're negotiating directly with hotels, managing the contract, and staying in control of every decision. We're right beside you with tools, tracking, and support every step of the way. On a $50,000 room spend with a 10% commission, you keep 50% — that's $2,500. Partial Management — We take on the front-end work. Merit handles location scouting, hotel outreach, and contract negotiations while you remain the main point of contact with your client. Same $50,000 spend, you keep 20% — that's $1,000. A $50,000 minimum room spend is required for this tier.
Yes and no — it depends on your service tier. For Self-Fulfillment, you're leading the negotiations directly. We're not gatekeeping anything — we give you the tools, scripts, and guidance to secure the best deal for your clients yourself. For Partial Management, we're much more hands-on with the hotel outreach and contract process, working alongside you and your client to get it done. Either way, you're never doing it alone.
